Faux News recently gave the President some flak for saying "we can absorb another terrorist attack" claiming that he was inviting more terrorist attacks, that he wanted us to be attacked. This, from a network that claims to be "fair and balanced."
This has got to be one of the stupidest things someone on Fox has said. I think it was pretty clear what Obama was saying and that his comment was in no way an invitation for another terror attack. What he said was, in a nutshell, if we get attacked, we will survive and recover, and we will be stronger because of it. Please tell me, how this invites an attack. If an attack makes us stronger, why would the terrorists want to attack us? If we're going to survive and recover, why would the terrorists want to attack us? All he is saying is that the US can absorb an attack and recover perfectly healthy and be stronger because of it.
Look at 9-11. For a little while, we were stronger. We were united and we rallied together in support of this country and its president after the attacks. Everyone was ready and willing to do what was necessary to destroy Al-Qaeda so such a thing could never happen to us again.
The conservative outrage over this comment makes me wonder if they're afraid that the next terror attack (god forbid there is one) could destroy us. I wonder what makes them so frightened. A terrorist attack is terrible thing, don't get me wrong, and no one wants one, but are they seriously frightened that if one happened, we wouldn't survive?
That's all Obama is saying. If an attack happens, we will survive and recover. It is a statement of our strength, not an invitation for attack.
But it was okay for George Bush to challenge the terrorists directly and say "Bring 'em on?" Not only is that an invitation, but a challenge for them to accept. It was a cowboy attitude that lead to both middle east wars and claimed the lives of millions. Bush actively invited them to attack us, Obama simply stated we were strong enough to survive and recover from one.

Fareed Zakaria and the "Terror Mosque"
When I was in grade school, some 10-15 years ago, I was taught, somewhat naively, that the US was the beacon of freedom and justice in the world. And I still believe that, in comparison to other nations, it still, in many ways, is, even if we are plagued by corruption and greed at every level of government.
Yet even as I grew older and became more disillusioned with the world around me, I still believe in the American idea, the nation of freedom and opportunity, where anyone, of any creed and any faith, can succeed.
Which is why I am deeply disgusted by the behavior of Americans in light of the Cordoba House in New York City, some two blocks away from where the World Trade Centers once stood. Many Americans feel that such a "mosque" (and I put mosque in quotations because it is not a mosque, it is more of a YMCA type of place with a room for prayer) is offensive to the victims of that terrible Tuesday morning. Yet, the Cordoba House is only offensive if you equate all Muslims to the type of Jihadist Islam that Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda embrace!
Islam, like Christianity, has many different sects and Al-Qaeda is only part of it. Claiming that all Muslims are supporters of anti-American, anti-Western terrorism, is nothing more than bigotry and ignorance. Many Muslims died on 9-11, other than the 19 hijackers, innocent Muslims, hated by Osama because they lived and worked in the United States and did not ascribe to his strict interpretation of Islam.
Fareed Zakaria, a political commentator on CNN.com explained this very well and below is a clip of his show hosted on Crooks and Liars.
As Zakaria explains, Al-Qaeda hates Sufi Islam. The Muslims building the Cordoba House are Sufi Muslims. It is asinine, stupid, and ignorant, to equate the Cordoba House with the terrorists who attacked us on 9-11, especially since those terrorists would glady kill Imam Faisal Rauf for the simple reason that he is a Sufi. There is absolutely no reason why anyone would be against this project.
And yet, these protesters are everywhere now. Not only in New York, but across the nation. According to Time Magazine, the city of Wilson Wisconsin had an ugly, hate-filled town meeting when a prominent doctor, Dr. Mansoor Mizra proposed construction of a mosque (Time Magazine, Aug 30, 2010, page 23.) One man even asked Dr. Mizra if there would be weapons training at the mosque.

How stupid and bigoted can you get? The article goes on to describe some of the other idiotic statements brought up at the town meeting, such as "the political objective of Islam is to dominate the world with its teachings." Which is not true of all sects of Islam, as much as such a saying would not be true of all sects of Christianity or any other major religion. Its a sweeping generalization that does NOT describe moderate Islam and ignorantly mixes the every day moderates with the extremist Jihadist whom we are fighting in Afghanistan.
Another citizen said "I just think its not America." And this pissed me off. This was the inspiration of my opening paragraph. I was brought up to believe that America was a land of freedom, free expression, free religion, free speech, etc. America is strong because we stand behind its principles, we stand behind its freedoms. It isn't freedom for all, provided that you are a white christian, it is freedom for all, of any creed, ethnicity, faith, and so on. This freedom is the America I was taught about in grade school, not the America we have become, an America of fear and bigotry.
Its disgusting, and I am disgusted. 61% of Americans oppose the Cordoba House (Time, Aug 30, 2010, pg 23) and for what reason? Because it would be an 'insult to those who died on 9/11.' Muslims died on 9-11, Sufi Muslims who are not extremists, are not terrorists, died that day because they did not follow Bin Laden's strict beliefs. I think they'd be insulted. As well as everyone else who died that day, would be insulted to see us throw away Constitutionally protected rights that they died for. These people died because we have freedom of religion and now we're going to strip it away because we're afraid of some Islamic boogieman?
We are not Saudi Arabia. We are better than Saudi Arabia. Our Constitution is stronger than their monarchy. We shouldn't be stooping to their level. Saudi Arabia, where Mecca is located, does not believe in freedom of religion, a fundamental human right. This is immoral, but what can we do about it? The US has no jurisdiction over Saudi Arabia. But the US has jurisdiction over itself. It takes pride in its freedoms, it takes pride in its cultural diversity and so it should embrace the Cordoba House as a symbol of our religious tolerance, and not rejected it out of bigotry, fear, and hatred.
But no. Fareed Zakaria, I suppose, will be ignored, not only because he's rational and logical, but because he has brown skin and Arabic looking name, kinda like how 24% of Americans STILL BELIEVE OBAMA IS A MUSLIM (Time, Aug 30, 2010, pg 26) because his middle name is 'Hussain.' No, I suppose we'd rather live in ignorance and fear than actually learn about other cultures and learn to coexist with other people. I suppose we'd rather reject our Bill of Rights because we're afraid.
Thank you America for giving in to terrorism. Osama bin Laden has won. This is exactly what he'd want us to do, destroy our very freedoms ourselves.

BP Oil Spill is NOT Katrina is NOT 9-11
Stop comparing BP to Katrina and 9-11. This is getting tiresome, and its idiotic rhetoic coming from both the left, the right, and the media. These three disasters are unique. One was a terrorist act, one was the weather, and one was the result of gross negligence.
9-11 was caused by murdering jihadest terrorists bent on destroying not only Americans but anyone who doesn't follow their strict beliefs. It occured because the federal government failed to put the pieces together and see that such an incident was going to occur. The pieces were there but the CIA and the FBI did not communicate thus the puzzle was never put together. The BP oil spill had nothing to do with Jihad, was not an act of terror and its insulting to those who died on 9-11 to compare it to the BP oil spill.
Katrina was the weather. No one could have stopped it. However, we could have better mitigated before it by ensuring the integrity of the levees in a Cat 5 storm and we could have responded afterward better through FEMA. The key difference between Katrina and the BP oil spill is that the government does not have a federal agency with expertise in oil spills. We did however, have one to respond to Katrina (FEMA.)
The BP oil spill was caused because BP was too cheap to actually pay for good cement work. They ignored Haliburton's warnings when they were constructing the site and did not perform safety tests. Then after the spill, they kept underestimating the severity of the leak, which hampered clean up efforts. Most of the clean up is done by corporations with expertise in oilspill clean up. The government on the other hand has no such expertise and no agency to help out. There is little the government can do but pass legislation to regulate the oil industry so this doesn't happen again.
The BP oil spill's fault rests entirely on BP. Stop blaming Obama. Stop claiming that the government isn't doing enough. This is not something the government specializes in or had prepared for.
And for the love of all that is holy stop comparing this oil spill to events in the past to which it is NOTHING alike.

So I Took a Gander at Conservapedia . . .
For anyone who doesn't know, Conservatives have claimed that Wikipedia has a well known liberal bias (Conservapedia) and in response, rather than making an objective and unbiased wiki, made Conservapedia.
This leads to the creation of the most ridiculous, and biased wiki on the net.
Just look at some of this:
On Liberals: "A liberal (also leftist) is someone who rejects logical and biblical standards, often for self-centered reasons. There are no coherent liberal standards; often a liberal is merely someone who craves attention, and who uses many words to say nothing" (Conservapedia)
Because we all know that biblical standards lead to logical standards right? Heck no. Biblical standards lead to idiots like Fred Phelps spreading hate, or creationists spreading lies. Biblical standards do not lead to logic, but science and logic does. And what do they always claim goes against the bible? Science, with its liberal logic and liberal facts.
On Obama: "Barack Hussein Obama II (birth name Barry Soetoro, allegedly born in Honolulu August 4, 1961 . . ."
I chuckled at the word "allegedly." Allegedly, this entry was written by a frothing Birther tea party activist.

Sure, before the oil spill, the Conservatives were like "DRILL DRILL DRILL" and now that its over, they act like they never supported it and that Obama was an evil guy who hates the environment and allowed the BP spill to happen.

Is Obama Doing Enough?
The media has been asking if the President has been doing enough about the current Iranian crisis and my response to this is yes, he is.
First of all, every single time we've meddled in the Middle East, it backfired on us. From the first coup in Iran, to the hostage crisis, to everything we've done 'for' Israel, Iraq and Afghanistan, and so on and so forth has backfired on us, creating a hotbed of hatred and terrorism directed at us. Thus I think it is high time that we just sit on our asses and let them fight it for themselves.
It is their fight, not ours. The election crisis is an internal affair and it is up to the Iranians to solve it, not us. Who appointed us? We are not the world police. And besides, they don't want or need our help. They never have.
There are two possible outcomes in this crisis, Khamenei and Ahmadinejad win and the revolution is crushed or they lose and the revolution puts up a moderate (probably Mousavi.) Whatever the outcome, neutrality is our best option. If we claim support for the revolution and the current Iranian government prevails, then we will be shooting ourselves in the foot if we want any diplomatic concessions from Iran in the future. They will refuse to cooperate. If the revolution succeeds, then opponents throughout the middle east will claim (as they currently are doing) that the revolution is just a sham perpetrated by the US and there'll be suspicions against their legitimacy. Thus neutrality is our best option here. Let them fight it out, we'll stay out of it.
Perhaps we need to keep up pressure on the current Iranian government to let them know the world is watching them and judging them, as a way to try to keep them from going too far, but I really don't think there is much we can or should do.
Let Iran fix Iran's problems.

Rhinoceroses Will Save the GOP.
Dick Cheney stated on Face the Nation that he'd rather have Rush Limbaugh, the corpulant, neocon extremist talk show host, than Colin Powell in the GOP. He did all but label Powell as a RINO, Republican-In-Name-Only. At the same time, FreeRepublic members attacked Governor Crist of Florida when he announced his bid for the U.S. Senate for being a RINO.But honestly, what the party needs is the moderate GOP elements that they are driving out, not the extremist GOP nutjobs that they are pandering to. When a member of the GOP is moderate, he is labeled "RINO," which is a title of scorn. The current republican party is a party of obstructionism, sabotage, and outright ridiculousness. This is now a party where President Obama is scorned as 'elitist' for asking for spicy mustard at a hamburger joint. This is a party that refuses to give Minnesota its constitutionally guaranteed representative by being unable to claim defeat. This is a party that organized tea parties, protesting taxes for the rich, which none of the protesters had to pay.
The party of fiscally conservative, small government, grassroots conservatism, is dead. It is in the hands of the moderates who are voiceless and rapidly fleeing the GOP for independent parties, or worse, the Democratic Party (I say worse because we are headed for a one party system, which would be unhealthy for this nation.) If the GOP wants to survive, they need to turn around and began pandering to the moderates.
A more moderate GOP, which cares about fiscal conservatism, small government, and personal responsibility has a place in this nation. A GOP that will keep the liberals in check is important. A GOP that will complain about mustard on a burger is not. We need a second party, or ideas will not be challenged and Congress will run too smoothly and no one will be around to criticize what they do. Even if they do, they'll be powerless to stop them. This nation must have at least two parties. A moderate GOP will help ensure that the budget is more conservative, that the government doesn't involve itself too far in private affairs and ensure that we maintain a defense against foreign threats.
The current GOP does none of these things. George W Bush was the biggest spender until Obama, who's spending due to an emergency. Under Bush, a surplus left by Clinton was brought to a deficit. The GOP claimed to be a small government party, but they stick their noses in the lives of gays and tell them they can't get married. They wiretap and watch everyone with suspicion and gave the executive branch powers to hold prisoners. The GOP right now is extremist and does not deliver on its promises at all. This is why the moderates are fleeing.
If instead the party listened to the moderates and shut out the idiots like Limbaugh, then perhaps they would not be in this situation. They'd have a viable platform and the ability to filibuster. But they'd rather see them turn tail and run away. Dick would rather have the corpulent Limbaugh than the intelligent Powell.
In other news, the Republicans in congress are trying to pass a bill to declare this year the Year of the Bible. I have a real problem with this. This is a nation of three hundred million people where roughly 20% are not Christian or Jewish (the Jews being included as they can relate to the Old Testament). That's around sixty million people who are not Christian. The bill is nothing more than a resolution, however it is unfair and unconstitutional. This crosses the line between separation of Church and State. It shows favoritism of one religion over another, which I believe the Founding Fathers wanted us to avoid when they stipulated "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of a religion or prohibiting the free practice thereof." Sure this does not literally establish an official religion, but it sends the message that the Christian religion is the one preferred in Congress, so in a way it does.
This is a multicultural nation, founded by secular humanists. This is not and never was suppose to be, a Christian nation. This is suppose to be a free nation where any religion is respected and practiced (within reason, obviously if your religion includes ritual sacrifice of young virgin females, there might be a bit of a problem) with no influence or bias from the U.S. government.
If this resolution passes, I will petition congress to declare next year, Year of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. It's only fair. To refuse would be discriminatory against my religion.

Obama Shakes Hands with Hugo Chavez
The right has been barking like a mad dog about the recent visit Obama made to Latin America, especially when he shook hands with the bellicose socialist President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez. They claim, once again, that the president is subjecting himself to Chavez by being polite to him.
This I don't understand. For the last 8 years, Bush has decided he'd rather ignore his foreign opponents than sit down and talk with them. We all saw where that lead. America is looked on with resentment by foreign nations. Iran for example was shut out by Bush's unwillingness to talk and Iran is full of people who like American values such as democracy and liberties. Talking to a leader is not surrendering to their whims! Shaking hands with Chavez was nothing more than a polite gesture.
In other news, right wing pundit, Bill O'reilly recently commented that the US was going to become a socialist nation, much like Sweden. And so in curiosity, I looked up Sweden. On a quality of life chart, Sweden is number five and the US is number thirteen.
Doesn't sound like a bad place to live.

Obama and Wiretapping
In recent news, Obama has backstepped on the wiretapping issue, giving 'national security' as an excuse. I'm no politician, but I want to say this:
I vote for Obama so nonsense such as wiretapping would come to an end. It is an immoral, if not illegal, invasion of a person's right to privacy and should not be used without a proper search warrant.
This current issue, I can understand, we don't want all these security details being released to the public. However, his current turn around on wiretapping had better ONLY be because of this technicality and he had better be seeking another way to end the secret wiretapping on innocent civilians.
I did not vote for him to continue any of the Bush policies. This development is a disappointment and if more of them crop up, I might have to vote third party or not vote at all in '12.

Chairman Obama to Open Gulags in US
Recently, a nutjob US Rep from Minnesota, Michele Bachmann, stated her fears that Barack Obama was going to open 're-education' camps.
I believe that there is a very strong chance that we will see that young people will be put into mandatory service. And the real concerns is that there are provisions for what I would call re-education camps for young people, where young people have to go and get trained in a philosophy that the government puts forward and then they have to go to work in some of these politically correct forums.-Bachmann The Minnesota Independant
I find this funny. John Stewart, comedian commentator from Comedy Central brought up an interesting point on his April 07 2009 show, that while the Republicans are claiming Obama's a fascist, they sat back and supported George W Bush for wiretapping, torture, invasion of Iraq, indefinite detaining, Gitmo, the No-Fly list, the strengthening of the TSA, and so on. And people who spoke out against Bush were often labeled as traitors, unamerican, unpatriotic. The Dixie Chicks in 2003, for example, were boycotted en masse for saying they were ashamed to be from Texas, just a few days after the invasion of Iraq. It's odd how the Republicans can support the expansion of executive branch powers under Bush, but turn around when Obama allegedly does the same. I agree entirely with Stewart on this point.
It seems that Republicans are desperate to scare people away from supporting Obama, only they've become crazy. Fascism? Totalitarianism? Obama's the fascist? Funny how a quick google search finds The 14 Points of Fascism, a left wing website about George Bush. But fascism was 'patriotism and love for the US' under Republican rule.
I read an article the other day, blaming Obama for polarizing the US. I call bullsh*t to this. It is not Obama, but crap like Bachmann accusing Obama of fascism, that is causing the polarization. The obstructionist, saboteur acts of today's Republican party is the cause of the polarization. Look at what they do. Everything Obama does, he does wrong in there eyes. They'll never admit when he does something right, they'll twist everything he does as being wrong for the country. And they spread their vitriol against the President amongst those who'll listen, fans of Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'reilly and people who buy Ann Coulter's books. As I've said earlier, most of their criticisms have been either fearmongering, like this fascism thing they've got going, and nitpicking non-issues. This is the cause of the polarization. The partisanship of the Republican party is doing far more to divide the nation than anything Obama's done.
As I said before, Obama isn't perfect, it is fine to disagree with him, hell I don't agree with him on a few subjects. But to accuse him of Sovietesque fascism? Do you people want to be re-elected? The party of right wing crazies continues to amaze me. Critique his policies, state your opinion on how well/terrible you think he's doing. But please, enough fearmongering. Enough spreading obstructionist bullshit. Each time you do something crazy like this, you polarize the nation further, and further drive more moderate republicans into independent parties.

Double Standards
At the G20, Barack Obama bowed to the King of the Saudis as a sign of respect. Of course, the republicans went berserk on every pundit show and every newspaper they could get on.

Obama Gives Queen An iPod, Hysteria Ensues
When Obama visited the UK a few days ago, he gave the Queen a gift, an iPod with videos and photos and speeches of both the Queen and himself. A gift that has the right wing in an uproar at this moment, claiming that an iPod is cheap, that she already has one, that Obama wasn't thinking, that Obama's a narcissist for giving her an iPod with his speeches on it.
But get this:
The Queen of England wanted a new iPod. And she's happy with it.
Once again, we see the dying Republican party flipping out over nothing, playing the partisan, simply because they can't live with the fact that Obama won the election. They're playing this game of sabotage at every turn. And it is ridiculous.
I already said it, this focus on trivial matters will kill the republican party if they don't grow up.
But I doubt they will. The GOP isn't a party for the United States of America, the GOP is a party for the GOP. They look out for number one and that is all they do. Look at Coleman from Minnesota. He can't admit that he lost the senate race for fear that yet another Democrat will take a senate seat, holding his entire state hostage for the party.
They don't give a damn about us. They don't give a damn about Americans. They care about themselves and their stupid party. They are an obstructionist group of middle aged white men, willing to act like children who aren't getting their way. It is disgraceful.

Oh God He Uses A Teleprompter
Is this what the Republicans are becoming? The sniveling party? Lately there has been criticism of President Obama because he uses a teleprompter.
I really, really don't get this.
Why are they upset with the president for using a tool that helps him give clear and concise speeches? The hell? I truly am astounded by this one.
Lets look at their posterboy, the guy they stuck us with the last eight years:

Are you going to grow up and learn to criticize his polices ever? You know, focus on IMPORTANT THINGS like the economy or foreign relations with N. Korea, Iran and Afghanistan? Or help us reunite with the nations Bush alienated? No? You're going to just sit down and nitpick the president?
Then I see the death of the entire Republican party.
You have concerns over his plans to bail out the economy, and I can understand that. This is good, this is healthy. But nitpicking seems to be your current focus.

GOP Rep Submits Bill Requiring Birth Cert. for Presidency
House Representitive Bill Posey (R-FL) is considering a bill to require that presidential candidates present their birth certificates.

I understand his intent, getting rid of this stupid distraction, but this shouldn't even be an issue. I'm not directing flames and brimstone at Posey, but at the nutjobs who are making an issue of this.
But I do need to say this:
"Opponents of President Bush used the 2000 election results and the court decisions to question the legitimacy of President Bush to serve as President," Posey said in a statement. "Opponents of President Obama are raising the birth certificate issue as a means of questioning his eligibility to serve as president. Neither of these situations are healthy for our Republic."
In 2000, we had a legitimate issue with the ballots in Florida. We had a true electoral dispute. This current dispute about BHO's birthplace is not a legitimate issue. He was born in Honolulu in 1961, after HI became a US state in 1959. The Certificate of Live Birth shows he was born in Honolulu. There is no controversy, just crazed conspiracy nuts who keep this stupidity going.
And I guarantee that if Barack Obama was white, or his middle name was something European, like 'Joe' or 'Robert,' none if this idiocy would happen.
And what of Senator McCain? He was NOT born in the US, but on a US military base in Panama. There were only a few cries to see proof of his citizenship. In fact, Obama and Hillary Clinton both cosponsored (AOL) a bill before the campaigns began, which allowed McCain to run for President.
This whole 'Obama's a Kenyan!' bullshit is not only pathetic, but it is racist, and ignorant. It is racist because I am sure this would not come up if he was white with an anglo-saxon name. And it is ignorant because it refuses to look at evidence.
The McCain controversy died the moment the McCain Citizenship Bill was passed. The moment the certification of live birth for Obama was produced what did all the nutjobs scream in unison?

Half Full Glass?
Joe Biden said a day or two ago, that the stimulus package has a 30% chance of failing. Which is interesting because in all of this economic hubbub, its been mostly republicans who've been saying the package won't work.
It kind of scares me that Biden said this, whether or not it was true, because it hints that even the democrats aren't optimistic. Biden could have said the package has a 70% chance of success. Its a true statement, given that Biden's assessment of failure was true, but it is more optimistic and kinda runs along the theme of Hope, which Obama and Biden ran on. I'm not saying they should lie to us, but this is the future of our nation right here. A little optimism won't hurt.
All in all, words like equity and mortgage and liquidate turn my brain into jelly, so I don't really understand the whole mess, I just hope to god the Congress is doing the right thing.

Too Good to be True
I didn't trust Obama during the campaign. I voted for him, but I didn't trust him. Everything he said was simply too good to be true.
Now its three weeks into his administration, and I'm beginning to trust him.
It scares me because I'm too cynical to trust a politician, but I want to trust him.
So I start feeling good about him and he goes off and pulls this stunt:
Obama Apologizes about Daschle
He owned up and apologized to a mistake! Bush NEVER did that! Not ONCE (alright, fine, he did say that he should not have put a Mission Accomplished sign on an aircraft carrier). And Clinton, Clinton had to be caught with his pants down before admitting to his big mistake, note that he lied to us before hand (I did not have a sexual relationship with that woman!).
I mean, Obama's a politician! You can't trust him! But he keeps doing things that garner trust. He's closing down Gitmo, he's putting up bills up on the internet for 5 days for the public to view before he signs/vetos them. He's ensuring that when a terror suspect undergoes rendition, they do NOT go to a country that uses torture. He's spoken out against torture. He's making government transparent, moral, and accountable and he's actually admitting to his own mistakes!
Its like some sort of wonder dream. It's too good to be true! I'm still waiting for the suck that Republicans say he's full of.

Now its three weeks into his administration, and I'm beginning to trust him.
It scares me because I'm too cynical to trust a politician, but I want to trust him.
So I start feeling good about him and he goes off and pulls this stunt:
Obama Apologizes about Daschle
He owned up and apologized to a mistake! Bush NEVER did that! Not ONCE (alright, fine, he did say that he should not have put a Mission Accomplished sign on an aircraft carrier). And Clinton, Clinton had to be caught with his pants down before admitting to his big mistake, note that he lied to us before hand (I did not have a sexual relationship with that woman!).
I mean, Obama's a politician! You can't trust him! But he keeps doing things that garner trust. He's closing down Gitmo, he's putting up bills up on the internet for 5 days for the public to view before he signs/vetos them. He's ensuring that when a terror suspect undergoes rendition, they do NOT go to a country that uses torture. He's spoken out against torture. He's making government transparent, moral, and accountable and he's actually admitting to his own mistakes!
Its like some sort of wonder dream. It's too good to be true! I'm still waiting for the suck that Republicans say he's full of.

Patriotic Drunk Rednecks and Shopping Carts
I can't tell if this is funny or sad.
In other news, some random idiots left a shopping cart in the middle of the parking lot and Stop and Shop. Come on folks, the corral is ten feet away. It takes a total of ten seconds, maybe, to walk the cart to the corral.
US Legislature should increase the income tax on people who are caught leaving carts out. That'll teach 'em.

Obama treats the banks like the irresponsible children that they are. CEOs: You can do without a bonus for a little while. The American people aren't giving you money so you can buy a fancy car and stuff like that. They are giving you money to try to help the economy.

Dear President Obama
Hope.
As a word, I am getting tired of hearing it. It is said by every pundit, in every speech, muttered by every politician, civilian, soldier, and it was on the minds of everyone, not just today, but since you started running on a platform of "hope and change."
As tiresome as the word is becoming, as the clock hit 12 PM, I was full of hope. A new era arrived and a new President and a new administration. I feel as if America is being lead by people who care about being accountable. I feel that she is being lead by men and women who are competent, who care more for country than for wealth and power and I feel that we can turn the nation around.
Yes We Can.
It was the mantra of the acceptance speech, three simple words. But it shall become the slogan of the next four, maybe eight, years. A slogan of optimism and hope.
But Mr. Obama, I must warn you. My first impression of you is that you are an honest and sincere man. I have a deep mistrust of politicians, so my apologies, but my cynicism gets the best of me. I want to trust you, I really do, but I hesitate to do so until I see you in action.
Do not make the mistakes the Bush Administration made.
Do not lie to us. Be sincere and honest. If a mistake is made, don't cover it up; man up to it, and fix it. Prove to us that you are honest and sincere. Prove to us that you are more than a man who can make brilliant and stirring speeches.
Do not fear monger. It is unnecessary and it is wrong. Fear mongering is dishonest. We are under threat from terror, but to use fear to manipulate the people is a terrible thing to do and leads down the dark road of fascism. Explain to us what the threats are but rather than scaring us, assure us.
Do not strip civil liberties for security. Freedom is first. I'd rather die to a terrorist than live in a police state.
Listen to the people, respond to the people. Give us communication and don't ignore us. Be transparent.
Do not condone acts of torture in the name of security. Torture brings us down to the level of those who terrorize us and it is our duty to maintain the moral high ground. We cannot defeat them by becoming them.
I know you are not a superhuman. I know you are not God. I know you are not the messiah come to save America. You will make mistakes. I accept that. America accepts that. But show us that you are doing what is best for the country. Show us we can trust you. Show us that the government can learn from the mistakes of past administrations. We do not expect the economy be fixed by tomorrow, nor do we expect our troops home within a year. But you must show us, within a year at the least, that you and your administration are doing your best.
I must admit, I was a bit unsure at first. Until around September, I was on the fence, unsure whether to vote for McCain or for you. It was then I decided that I was tired of the GOP and their incessant fear mongering and war hawking. So I voted for you and your administration. And I must say, since the 4rth, I have not seen much to disagree with from you and your administration. Please show me that I, and millions like me did not make a mistake on November 4rth.
I wish you all the luck in the world and I hope for the best. I believe you can do this. I have faith in you. But let that faith be rewarded.
And if there is anything I could do to help, I would.
